Lake Sediments and Environment
Research Interests
· Lake sediments and environment

Base on the lacustrine sediment extracted from lake basin in the monsoonal-arid transition zone by using high precision drilling equipment, to generate high-resolution time series of major climatic factors and multiple environmental proxies through detailed sedimentological, palaeontological, geochemical and chronological studies.

According to the lithology, geological, physical, chemical and biological process and mechanism of lacustrine sediment, to reveal the changing process and reasons of climate change and environment variation, and to explore the dynamic links with global change.

Based on archaeological remains saved in the lacustrine sediment, to reveal the impact of climate change and environment variation on human activities, and the influence of human activities on natural environment.

· Speleothem and Paleoclimatology

Based on the studies of chronology, geochemistry and sedimentology of widely distributed speleothems, we strive to reconstruct high-precise and high-resolution time series of climate and environment over the past 640000 years. To explore the climatic and environmental signals of proxies from speleothem, we have carried out cave monitoring including the investigation of modern climate, precipitation process of speleothems and the climatic signal transfer.

Combined with other geological and historical documents, we try to explore the history of climate change and environment variation on different spatial and temporal scales, and then to discuss the mechanism and the links within global change.
