Overview of Research Collaborations

The IGGCAS’s international cooperation and exchange activities focus on the Institute’s strategic positioning and scientific objectives. Comprehensive and cooperative ties with a wide range of international research institutions and universities have been successfully established. Over the years, the Institute has cooperated with more than a dozen countries and regions, and has established long-term friendly and cooperative relations with national-level scientific research institutions in the United States, France, Germany, South Korea, among many others. The Institute actively cooperates with nearby countries in fields such as geology, geophysics and geochemistry, taking the advantages of relevant disciplines and experience. In addition, the Institute actively organizes international conferences, with particular focus on important and current topics in Earth science.

High-level academic exchanges strongly promote the process of integration with international academic institutions. These exchanges form multi-channel and multi-directional cooperation combining the Institute’s advantages and characteristics. These exchanges significantly enhance international awareness and promote the international competitiveness of the Institute in the fields of science and technology. These exchanges allow the Institute to further strengthen its research capabilities, improve its international status, and promote the progress of its research work.

More and more scientists are attracted to the Institute: During 2013, a total of 265 foreign scientists visited the Institute and six international conferences, organized by scientists from IGGCAS, were held in China . In addition, our scientists are increasingly being recognized by international organizations. Prof. Xiaoping Yang from IGGCAS was officially elected as Vice President of the IAG (International Association of Geomorphologists) for the period 2013-2017 and he is in charge of the IAG Working Groups and the society’s activities in Asian and Pacific regions.
