7th Asian Regional Conference of IAEG was held in Chengdu

The International Symposium: “Geological Engineering Problems in Major Construction Projects” in Combination with the 7th Asian Regional Conference of IAEG in Chengdu, organized by the China National Group of IAEG and Chengdu University of Technology, was held in Chengdu,China, from September 9th to September 11th in 2009.

Over 200 representatives from 27 countries attended the meeting. Academician Wang Sijing and Professor Wu Faquan from IGGCAS gave invited reports entitled“Geological risks and environmental geological problems in large-scale construction projects”and “Slope protection for relocated new town construction in the Three Gorges Reservoir area” respectively.

The purpose of the conference is to provide a platform for exchanging and discussing the typical engineering-geological problems in major construction projects in different countries and to share the experience in order to promote the Engineering Geology self-development as well as to offer recommendations during the engineering construction process. The symposium offered planned visits to some typical projects for onsite discussion, and an engineering technology and equipment exhibition. In addition, the IAEG council and executive meeting were held during this occasion.
