"Liu Tungsheng Star" Twinkling In Outer Space

       ——commemoration of the academician Liu Tungsheng

    Jointly proposed by the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences,and the Chinese Association for Quaternary Research,a conference to mark the anniversary of the passing away of the Academician Liu Tungsheng was held in Beijing on 6 March, 2009.

    Ceremonies for the naming of the "Liu Tungsheng Star"(No.58605),and for the first Publication of his two books , "commemoration of  Academician Liu Tungsheng" and "Loess and arid environment", were held at the conference.

    Academician Liu Tungsheng was a great scientist and had dedicated his heart and soul to the Earth Studies and made outstanding achievements. He was awarded a National Grand Prize in Science Technology  in 2003.

    Prof. Zhu Rixiang ,director of the Institute of Geology and Geoghysics,and Prof. Li Jinghai, vice president of CAS, made important speeches at the conference. About 250 scientists, including colleagues and friends of the Academician Liu Tungsheng attended the commemoration conference.
