Ancient, highly heterogeneous mantle beneath Gakkel ridge, Arctic OceanAncient, highly heterogeneous mantle beneath Gakkel ridge, Arctic Ocean Together with his collaborators and through study on abyssal peridotites from Gakkel ridge (Arctic Ocean), Dr. Chuanzhou Liu, from Institute of Geology and Geophysics (Chinese Academy of Sciences), discovered that the heterogeneity could be long-term preserved in asthnospheric mantle, which have not been erased efficiently as traditionally thought. The results of abyssal peridotites from the ultra-slow spreading Gakkel ridge challenge the traditional wisdom on the chemical composition of asthenospheric mantle, and have been published as an Article on Nature journal.
