As the field of Earth sciences continued to evolve in China, the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, CAS, was founded by integrating the Institute of Geology with the Institute of Geophysics. The new Institute is in the process of becoming an outstanding academic center whose activities span a wide range of fields and exert a strong influence on scientific research both at home and abroad. 

The Institute is composed of many research groups that focus on a variety of subjects, some of which overlap and are partially integrated with each other. The Institute provides a good platform for researchers who are tackling important projects and making significant advances in understanding Earth systems. 

There is a solid academic tradition at the Institute. We offer academic freedom, respect and value talent, and encourage creativity. It is our hope that everyone here brings his or her potential into full play in order to achieve success.
