Quaternary Environment
Research Interests
· Paleopedology and past global climate change

Based on systematic sedimentological, paleopedological, environmental magnetism and biogeochemical studies on the leoss-paleosols duing the Cenozoic, to better understand the evolution of East Asian monsoon at tectonic-orbital timescales and its mechanism connected with Plateau uplift, land-sea distribution and global cooling.

· Paleocarbon cycle and climate change

Using the geological records and theoretical ecosystem modeling, to quantitatively reconstruct the evolution of paleovegetation, paleoclimate and paleolanduse in China, and achieve terrestrial ecosystem carbon cycle simulation;

to better understand the relationship of paleoclimate changes and the global carbon cycle, and distinguish the natural and human activity factors on the global climate changes.

· Paleoclimate change and human evolution

Based on systematic researches about the relationships between clay mineralogy, environmental magnetism and palynology and environmental factors of different climate under modern process, studies on the fluvio-lacustrine sediments and cave sediments to detailed reconstruct paleo-environmental changes and discuss its significance to human evolution.

· Dendroclimatology

Based on the multi-proxy data including tree ring width, density and stable isotopes, and integrating the tree physiological model and climate system model, to investigate Asian monsoon climate changes at annual-centennial timescales and its relationship to the global changes.
