The 4th International Association for Engineering Geology and Environment (IAEG) European Regional Academic Conference (EUROENGEO 2024) was held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, from October 8 to 12, 2024. During the conference, Professor Qi Shengwen was elected as the Vice President of IAEG, overseeing Asian affairs. In addition, Associate Professor Zhu Weiwei was honored with the 2024 IAEG Richard Wolters Prize (RWP) and delivered a lecture at the conference’s closing ceremony in recognition of this achievement.

Founded in 1964, the IAEG is an internationally recognized authority in the field of engineering geology and the environment and is affiliated with the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). It is a founding member of the Federation of International Geo-Engineering Societies (FedIGS) and a key participant in the Deep Time Digital Earth program, IUGS. IAEG is also a core partner in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (UNESCO). Its mission is to advance engineering geology through scientific research and technological development, enhance education and training in the field, and globally disseminate outstanding achievements. Since 2011, the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGGCAS) has hosted the IAEG Secretariat, with Academician Wang Sijing served as both Vice President and President of IAEG.

The IAEG RWP, established in 1986 in honor of the German engineering geologist and former IAEG Secretary General Professor Richard Wolters, is awarded biennially to young scholars for their outstanding contributions to the advancement of engineering geology. To date, 25 individuals worldwide have received this prestigious award, including Professors Qin Siqing, Shang Yanjun, and Qi Shengwen from IGGCAS.
