The institute possesses a medium-sized professional library and an information bank, which mainly serves to assist in research activities. The library is designed for collecting, organizing, storing, exchanging, and disseminating information pertaining to geosciences and related disciplines.  

The library has an extensive collection with Palaeontographical Society, published in 1888, one of the library oldest records. Over many years of systematic and continuous collection, it has a high standing among geoscience libraries in China, as well as being characterized by its own unique features. The materials collected cover the two disciplines of geology and geophysics. The library houses books, magazines, data banks, electronic resources, internal data, and academic degree theses, as well as geological, geographic, and magnetic maps. There are a total of 24,455 volumes of books, 36,995 volumes of magazines, 26 databases, and 50,000 maps. All of these materials are managed by and may be searched using the library’s computer system. The library strives to be at the forefront of modern information processing techniques, to provide more direct and effective scientific research services.
