Recent trends in the development of Earth sciences include the expansion of research fields, innovation of methods and techniques, synthesis of microscale to macroscale investigations, field geological surveys, and laboratory modeling. Based on the concept that science may be promoted by technological advancements, the Institute is dedicated to establishing and cultivating state-of-the-art laboratories and techniques with applications to Earth science. The Institute has set up seven technical supporting systems, which includes the Analysis System of the Earth's Material Composition and Property, Geochronology, Observation and Detection System for Earth's Interior Structure, Space Environment Detection System, Palaeoenvironmental Data Analysis System, Data Processing and Computing System, and is also developing exploration facilities for mineral resources.
