From October 14 to 27, 2024, the "Frontiers of Earth and Planetary Sciences" international training course was successfully held at the institution. This initiative was funded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences under the "Belt and Road" for Developing Countries and organized by the institute’s Public Technology Center. The course hosted 19 early-career international scholars from 11 countries, including Sri Lanka, Serbia, South Africa, Zambia, Mongolia, Thailand, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Russia, Malaysia, and Nepal.
The training course encompassed four thematic courses: i) Frontiers of Lithosphere Evolution and Environmental Change Research, ii) Advance in Deep Oil and Gas Theory and Intelligent Exploration and Development, iii) Planetary Science and Frontier Technology, and iv) Modern Geochemical Analysis and Its Applications.
A total of 32 researchers, both from within and outside the institute, delivered lectures offering insights into cutting-edge developments and methodologies in these areas. In addition, the training included field geological surveys in the Huairou-Miyun area of Beijing, enabling participants to gain hands-on experience with geological formations and processes. Additionally, visits to research institute laboratories, museums, and the institute's history hall, showcasing the institute’s contributions to Earth and planetary sciences.
Three discussion sessions were held, engaging participants, teaching staff, representatives from the relevant disciplinary groups. Discussions were held on scientific research cooperation, graduate student training, and frontier scientific issues, leading to cooperation intentions.
At the closing ceremony, representatives from the Science and Technology Office and the Science and Technology Platform Office awarded certificates of completion to the participants. The event highlighted the success of the program in building international academic networks and advancing knowledge sharing in Earth and planetary sciences.
