On the morning of September 4, 2024, a delegation from the American Geophysical Union (AGU), led by AGU President Lisa Graumlich and Chief Executive Officer Janice Lachance, along with three Vice Presidents responsible for science, global collaboration, and publications, as well as the editor for the China region, visited our institute. The delegation was welcomed by the President of the Chinese Geophysical Society and Director of our institute, Academician DI Qingyun, Vice President and Secretary-General Guo Jian, Vice Director WAN Bo, and several researchers. The meeting was chaired by WAN Bo.
DI Qingyun extended a warm welcome to the AGU delegation and provided an overview of the Chinese Geophysical Society’s activities and its long-standing cooperation with AGU. XU Chenxi, Director of the Science and Technology Office, presented the history and recent research progress of our institute. Lisa Graumlich and Janice Lachance gave a comprehensive overview of AGU's global influence, activities, and scientific journals. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on strategies for participating in AGU events and managing AGU journals. There was unanimous agreement that open collaboration is vital for advancing the earth sciences, and both parties expressed a strong commitment to enhancing cooperation and fostering mutual development.
The American Geophysical Union is a leading academic and research organization in the field of geophysics. Founded in 1919, AGU is an international non-profit research institution with over 58,000 members from 135 countries. It publishes 19 academic journals, including the renowned Journal of Geophysical Research series.
