On Nov 5th, Dr. Wang Xiaodong, from the Swedish Institute of Space Physics, was invited to visit our Institute in November this year. Dr. Wang completed his Master of Science degree in geophysics at Peking University in 2008 and received his PhD from the National Astronomical Observatories, CAS in 2011. He worked at Swedish Institute of Space Physics, Kiruna, as a postdoctoral research fellow in 2011, and was appointed a permanent member of staff in 2015. His previous work has been on the space environment of Mars, and his major research interests include data analysis from the neutral particle detector on Mars express, simulation of the interaction of solar wind with Mars. He has published many papers in top peer-reviewed journals such as JGR, GRL, and PSS.
Dr. Wang gave a presentation entitled “The observation of the Martian atmosphere escape process”. In this lecture, he outlined the general activities of the Swedish Institute of Space Physics, and reviewed the recent progress of studies on Martian atmosphere particles escape. He also presented the latest research results conducted by their team. IGGCAS scientists and students from different research groups joined this presentation, and discussed the related issues with Dr. Wang.
