Professor Vadim Kravchinsky visited our institute on May 20th, 2015. Kravchinsky, a professor at the University of Alberta, Canada, visited the Paleomagnetism and Geochronology Laboratory and gave a lecture titled ‘Lake Baikal magnetic record of the climate response to orbital forcing: a discovery of non-Milankovitch extra long periodicities'.
Professor Kravchinsky has a wide range of research interests covering paleomagnetism, petromagnetism, tectonics and geodynamics, paleoclimate, and geophysics. His lecturer summarized the research history of Lake Baikal and discussed the paleoclimatic significances of the non-Milankovistch periodicities revealed by the environmental magnetic proxies.
