“International Conference on Craton Formation and Destruction” was successfully held in April 26, 2011 to April 29, 2011 at IGGCAS. More than 200 scholars and experts from the United States, Britain, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, India, China and other countries attended the meeting.
Rixiang Zhu, the member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the director of IGGCAS, and Yucheng Chai, the director of Department of National Natural Science Foundation of China, gave speeches at the opening ceremony, respectively. They reviewed the great achievements on the formation and destruction of the North China craton that have been made by Chinese scientists and their collaborators during the past eight years. The meeting focused on three symposiums: “Destruction of Craton”, “Formation of Craton and its Early Evolution”, “Craton VS Orogen”. More than 110 Chinese and foreign scholars presented their recent studies, including 50 presentations and more than 60 posters.
