As invited by Dr Kezhang Qin, Dr. Baohong Hou , Senior Principal Scientist of Primary Industries and Resources South Australia (PIRSA) visited the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences during September 2009, under International collaborative research between Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Australian Academy of Sciences (AAS)

Dr WU Fu-yuan, deputy director of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of CAS met Dr Hou, and discussed and exchanged ideas and knowledge on the Chinese and Australian research and exploration of mineral resources, and the potentials of collaborative research between Chinese and Australian geosciences. The visiting program also involved six lectures presented by Dr Baohong Hou (Insight on South Australia Mineral Resource Investment;Exploration of palaeochannels/ palaeoshorelines, South Australia – methods and models; Chinese CHIM Geoelectrochemical Method in Exploration for Concealed Mineralisation in Australia and China; Sandstone Uranium Mineralisation and Exploration in South Australia; Keys for opening the Eucla Basin and Palaeochannels, Southern Australia; andGeosciences -Aspects of overseas study and work) and a lecture presented by Dr. Guanghe Liang in their latest achievements in the application of geologic research  to sylvite in Laos, including numerous integrated geophysical methods such as shallow seismic, gravity, and electromagnetic.

Over 30 academic staff and (Master and PhD) students, such as Dr Kezhang Qin, Dr Jianming Liu, Dr Hongrui Fan, Dr Lianchang Zhang, Dr Chunfang Cai, Dr Diazhao Chen (Research Professors), and Dr Guanghe Liang and Dr Guoqiang Xue (Associate Research Professors), attended the lectures and discussion seminars on the leading edge technology and methodology of geology and mineral resources. Dr Hou also visited a number of CAS laboratories, such as the Cameca 1280 SIMS ion microprobe laboratory, electron microprobe laboratory, Sr-Nd-Pb isotope and S-C-H-O stable isotope laboratories, and fluid inclusions laboratories to attend. The visit has resulted in great potentials of international cooperation in exploration and research of mineral resources between the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of CAS and Minerals & Energy of PIRSA.
