As expected Prof. Carlo Laj gave his last talk entitled"Paleomagnetic Study of the Hawaiian long basaltic cores:geomagnetic and volcanologic implications"on June 17,and Prof.Catherine Kissel, visiting to our institute at the same time with Prof. Carlo Laj, presented three lectures on June 17 and 24,with the titles listed below:"Contribution of the east Asian Monsoon and of the oceanic circulation pattern to the detrital sedimentary supply in the past: magnetic approach from South China Sea and west equatorial Pacific","Variability of the North Atlantic deep water circulation during the Holocene",Variability of the deep oceanic circulation during the last glacial period (two main components : NADW and AACC).
Prof. Catherine Kissel, working at Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l'Environnement, Gif-sur-Yvette, France, has been carring out her research in the application of the paleomagnetic and environmental magnetism methods to climatic/environmental projects. Using the magnetic properties of the sediments, Prof. Kissel works on many different oceanic sedimentary cores in order to decipher the physico-chemical changes of the ocean in the past and to understand how it participated to the global climatic changes. And she is also participating to the study of the past changes in the earth magnetic field which is used as a long distance correlation tool between different natural archives. Prof.Catherine has published more than 100 articles in international scientific journals and supervised or co-supervised more than 10 PhD thesis. And now she is serving LSCE as a leader of the ChronoMag team.
