Invited by Prof.Yanfei Wang and Prof. Changchun Yang,Prof. Uri Ascher paid a visit to our institute from May 25 to 29.
Prof. Ascher is the professor of Department of Computer Science, University of British Columbia , Canada. He has been focusing on investigation and promotion of novel, efficient and reliable methods in scientific computation: general-purpose mathematical software; investigating parallel algorithms and optimization techniques; solving inverse problems involving differential equations; considering hybrid systems; and getting more specifically involved in particular application areas such as multibody systems simulation, virtual reality, robotics, data inversion in geophysics, 3D electromagnetic modeling, geometric integration methods for Hamiltonian differential equations, image reconstruction, 3D mesh denoising, cloth simulation and computational fluid dynamics.
Prof. Ascher gave one invited talk entitled “Fast gradient descent, artificial time integration, and applications to image and surface reconstruction”on May 26 at our institute. And he also made a mutual communication with Yanfei Wang about using their method to geophysical inverse problems.
