On December 21st, the "2023 Graduate Academic Annual Conference," organized by the Education Department, was held in IGGCAS. Professor Wei Yong, the Deputy Director, was invited to attend, and nearly 200 graduate students and researchers participated.
The conference featured a special invited report titled "Fine Structure and Paleoenvironmental Evolution of Shallow Mars Landing Sites Revealed by the Zhurong Rover," presented by postdoctoral fellow Li Chao . The report introduced the fine structure of the landing site revealed by the surface-probing radar of the Zhurong rover, highlighting the discovery of successive water-related surface modification events and buried ancient polygonal landforms in the landing area.
Twenty-two graduate students from different disciplines at our institute delivered academic presentations, comprehensively showcasing their research achievements in their respective fields. The conference sparked enthusiastic discussions and created a rich academic atmosphere. An evaluation panel composed of experts, including Professor Liu Libo, Hao Qingzhen, Tang Yanjie, Xu Ya, Huang Tianming, Li Jilei and Zhang Lei, reviewed the academic presentations of the aforementioned 22 graduate students. Through anonymous voting, one first prize, three second prizes, and six third prizes were awarded.
During the poster exchange event held on the morning of December 22nd, 52 students prepared posters. The content of the posters was excellent and substantial. Attendees had face-to-face interactions and discussions with the authors in front of the posters, promoting mutual understanding and interdisciplinary integration, and providing a platform for graduate students to broaden their academic horizons.
The academic conference also invited 34 teachers and students from six "Earth and Planetary Science Climbing Scholarship" schools, including Jilin University, Nanjing University, Northwest University, Yunnan University, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), and University of Science and Technology of China, and held a special symposium.
