IAEG European Regions Conference held in Moscow

International Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG) European regions Conference took place in Moscow during September 3-11, 2011. More than 400 scholars and experts from about 40 countries and regions attended the meeting, which is a large annual international conference. 41 Chinese delegations including Academician Wang Sijing, Prof. Wu Faquan, Prof. Hu Ruilin, Dr. Ma Fengshan, Dr. Song Yuhuan, Dr. Qi Shengwen and Dr. Li Lihui from IGGAS attended the meeting. 

The topic of meeting is “Territory Protection and Population Safety”, comprising 6 invited lectures and 7 keynote speeches covers endogenous geohazards and engineering protection, exogenous geohazards and engineering protection, Regional problems in engineering protection of territories (case study), hydro meteorological geohazards and engineering protection, soils and rocks as an important factor of territory vulnerability and socio-economic and ecological aspects of engineering protection. Academician Wang Sijing, Dr. Qi Shengwen and other scholars from IGGCAS gave speeches respectively in the meeting.

During September 4-5, 2011, IAEG president Prof. Carlos and Secretary Prof. Wu Faquan co-hosted executive committee meeting and council meeting. Moreover, the Secretary of China National Group Dr. Qi Shengwen attended the meeting as the representative China.

On Sept. 6, the Committee for structure and behavior of Soil and Rock mass (C29) under IAEG held a seminar on “Structure and Behavior of Soil and Rock Mass” by Prof. Hu Ruilin as chairperson of C29, and Dr. Li Lihui as the secretary during the meeting. About 20 Chinese and foreign scientists, including Prof. V.I. OSipov, member of the Russian academy of sciences, attended the seminar.
