2010 IGCP-580 Meeting : "Applications of magnetic susceptibility on the Paleozoic rocks"  was held in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region during 28th November-4th December 2010.

Magnetic susceptibility (MS) has been widely used as a conventional proxy in paleoclimatic reconstruction, especially for Cenozoic sediments; however, fewer efforts have been taken to apply it back into the deeper-time Paleozoic sedimentary rocks. This meeting focuses on the issues of MS applications in paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental reconstruction for the Paleozoic rocks (especially for Devonian Carbonates).

This meeting was organized by Prof. Daizhao Chen, the Co-leader of IGCP-580 project from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). 19 scholars from the United States, Belgium, Czech, Poland, Senegal, India Vietnam, over 20 experts and 10 graduate students from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, CAS, Peking University, China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Hefei University of Technology, Shandong University of Science and Technology, Petro China and Sinopec attended this meeting. Attendees presented their latest researches on MS applications in Paleozoic (especially Devonian) rocks with the form of oral and poster presentations. After the meeting, field excursions and team work of IGCP-580 project were arranged to examine the local Paleozoic (Devonian and Carboniferous) carbonates around Guilin.
