On 26, September, the workshop on the establishment of "South China continental reconstructions", a major research project, was held at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGGCAS).
The director of IGGCAS Professor Zhu Rixiang introduced the project foundation, the core scientific issues, research content, expectations and the previous research in South China Geological.
Professor Li Xianhua made a "continent formation and reconstructions - the process, mechanisms and issues" special report on the continent formation, the reconstructions process, the progress in continental reconstructions of the typical regions, geological evolution of South China and the presence of the major scientific issues.
The experts made a lively discussion and put forward many constructive and instructive comments and suggestions. The scientific issues need to be further condensed to focus on the geological age, processes, mechanisms and kinetics of South China continental reconstructions, to explore the intrinsic link between the deep process and in shallow depth. We should explore the relationships of substances migration and metal mineralization, the preservation or destruction of oil and gas resources in the process of continental reconstructions to provide geological evidences for further exploration of mineral resources. Combining the results of implemented "North China Craton" major research project, we should improve the research objectives to a new theory of continental formation and evolution in the basis of the study of South China continental reconstructions.
Several senior academicians attended the workshop.
