On January 29th, a delegation of 5 people from Statoil paid a visit to the Institute of Geology and Geophysics. The delegation was led by Ole Martinsen, Vice President of Exploration in Technology and New Energy, Statoil and Jens-Petter Kvarstein, Vice President, Head of Technology, Statoil China. The objective of the visit is to discuss the potential for applied basic research in oil&gas resource exploration and new energy development through academic communication.

On behalf of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Research Professor of Division of Oil and Gas Resource Mrs Hao Tianyao first welcomed Mr. Martinsen and his colleagues. She then briefly introduced the Institute of Geology and Geophysics and its direction and characteristics of oil&gas resource research. After this, Mr. Martinsen introduced Statoil’s business area and the main development. Mr. Kvarstein introduced the long cooperation history of Statoil when it entered China since 1982, Statiol’s business development and outlook in China in recent years. Next, Professor Luo Xiaorong, Professor Hu Shengbiao, vice researcher Zhang Hongzhou introduced Dynamics study of oil&gas accumulation system, imaging beneath complex structure, geothermal evolution of oil&gas basin in continental & offshore China thermal study.

Through the communication, both parties realized that Statoil could cooperate with Institute of Geology and Geophysics in the areas of oil&gas exploration and development, clean energy development and utilization, environment protection and CCS, etc. Statoil delegation strongly expressed its compliment to the R&D outcome Institute of Geology and Geophysics had achieved. They expressed it wish to keep in contact with Institute of Geology and Geophysics, enhance communication, establish cooperative relationship though various models and in different levels.

Statoil is the national oil company of Norway with activities in 40 countries and approximate 30,000 employees. It produces 1.95 million barrel of oil equivalent (boe) per day. It has about 22 billion boe in proven resources (5.6 billion as booked reserves). Statoil is one of the world’s largest net sellers of crude oil and the world’s largest operator in waters deeper than 100 meters. Currently, Statoil is very fast in exploration technology and equipment, onshore oil and gas exploration, clean energy development and utilization and CCS, etc.
